Temporary Marriage
The best relationship between a man and a woman is to be married
permanently. God clearly reveals this in the Bible:
Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and
shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
(Genesis 2:24)
However, as we know, the flesh is strong and the spirit is weak
in many humans. That is why, with the most Compassion, God has sent
this revelation that a man and a woman may engage in a temporary
marriage. There are rules for such a situation, however.
A
men and a woman may engage in a temporary marriage when the woman is
not a virgin (most probably a divorced/widowed!), woman is not
married, and there is a contract between them. The contract can be
verbal but clear. It should put a time limit on such a relationship.
After the time limit has expired, they should terminate the
relationship or make it permanent.
If they decided to
terminate the relationship, the woman shall refrain from any sexual
relationship and/or marriage, for four months and ten days. In this
period, if any child was conceived through the couple, it will be
clearly recognized and father is the man who had a temporary
marriage with the woman. He is responsible in raising the child, as
is the mother. If this is not observed a genetic test can
replace this requirement!
As mentioned above, this is not the highest
form of relationship between a man and a woman. The Highest is when
a man and a woman marry based on Gods Will forever (become One
Flesh). Or they dedicate their lives to God and become Sannyasins
(renunciates). Those who practice temporary marriage are those
who do not live in the COLs!
The only time a virgin may consider this alternative to
permanent marriage is if she is 25 years of age (or older)!
